Bethany Sloan has served as General Manager of Pop's Birding since 2010, continuing the legacy of her grandfather, William "Pops" Sloan, inventor of the Original Hummingbird Swing. A lifelong hummingbird enthusiast, educator, and independent researcher, she leads the company's educational content, including its 50-State Hummingbird Guide series and Hummingbird Learning Center. Bethany combines scientific research, regional migration data, and more than 16 years of hands-on experience to create trusted educational resources for bird enthusiasts across North America.

Bethany Sloan has served as General Manager of Pop's Birding since 2010, continuing the legacy of her grandfather, William "Pops" Sloan, inventor of the Original Hummingbird Swing. For more than 16 years, she has overseen the company's operations, product development, customer education, and educational publishing while helping thousands of bird enthusiasts create welcoming habitats for hummingbirds.

A lifelong hummingbird enthusiast, educator, and independent researcher, Bethany serves as the lead author and editor of Pop's Birding's educational resources, including the comprehensive 50-State Hummingbird Guide series and Hummingbird Learning Center. Her work combines scientific literature, regional migration data, state wildlife resources, and decades of practical experience to create accurate, accessible, and trustworthy information for bird enthusiasts across North America.

Bethany earned a Bachelor of Science in Business with Honors from the University of Redlands in 2017. Her capstone project applied Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and spatial analysis to Pop's Birding and received the 2016–2017 Outstanding Student Excellence Award from the Center for Business GIS & Spatial Analysis. She was elected by her classmates to serve as Class CEO, inducted as a Fellow of the Whitehead Leadership Society, and later returned to mentor business students and support leadership development within the university community.

Bethany's passion for education, lifelong learning, and wildlife conservation shapes every article she writes. Her goal is to help bird enthusiasts of every experience level better understand hummingbird behavior, migration, habitat, and backyard conservation through practical, research-informed guidance.


Research Interests: Hummingbird migration, species identification, native plants, nectar-feeding best practices, backyard habitat conservation, bird behavior, and wildlife education.
