Description

Pop's Nectarade® is pure cane sugar nectar with a few simple additions: potassium chloride, calcium carbonate and wildflower hydrosols. No dyes and no preservatives. Nectar is fuel; insects supply the protein, so pair your feeder with native flowers that bring both.

  • Pure cane sugar, with no dyes or preservatives. A little citric acid is added only to adjust pH.
  • Wildflower hydrosols: water steam-distilled from mixed wildflowers.
  • Contains potassium chloride, a mineral salt. Flower nectar naturally carries trace salts like this.
  • Includes a little calcium carbonate. Researchers have watched nesting females eat calcium-rich soil and grit; adding calcium is Pop's reasoning, built on that observation.
  • Ready to use: one bag yields 8.5 oz of Nectarade®.

Ingredients: Water, Sugar, Wildflower Hydrosols, Potassium Chloride, Citric Acid (pH adjustment), Calcium Carbonate

Change nectar every 2–3 days in normal weather, every 1–2 days when it's 90°F or hotter, and right away if it turns cloudy. Our Nectar Change Calculator gives your exact schedule.

Pro tip

For extra hummingbird activity, fill your feeder only as full as your hummingbirds will empty before the next change: every 2–3 days in normal weather, or every 1–2 days when it's 90°F or hotter. Depending on activity, that may be 1/4 to 1/2 full or more. Clean the feeder each time you change the nectar.

Bring them closer

Build a hummingbird sanctuary

  1. Hang it in the right spot

Hang it 4–6 feet high, with morning sun and afternoon shade, near a tree or shrub for cover. Pick a spot you can see from a window. See the placement guide.

  2. Give them a place to rest

Pop's rule of thumb: hang a hummingbird swing about 1 foot from the feeder, at the same height, so they have a comfortable place to rest beside their food.

  3. Add cover and flowers

Choose a sheltered spot near tall flowering shrubs, so they have somewhere to retreat and natural nectar close by. Pop's wildflower seed mix is an easy start.

  4. Keep the nectar fresh

Change nectar every 2–3 days in normal weather, every 1–2 days when it's 90°F or hotter, and right away if it turns cloudy. Pop's nectar adds calcium and electrolytes.

Nectar questions

The things bird lovers ask us most.

Choosing your nectar

Which nectar should I choose?

Powder (Nectarlyte®) and Concentrate (Nectarade®) are the best value: you mix only what your feeder holds. Ready to Use needs no measuring at all. See Compare all 4 nectars for how much each makes and the cost per ounce.

How much nectar do I need?

It depends on how many feeders you have, their size, and how often you change the nectar. Tap Help me choose how much under Subscribe & save, or see the How much nectar do I need? table.

What's the difference between Nectarlyte® and Nectarade®?

Nectarlyte® is a powder you mix with warm water (1 part to 4). Nectarade® is a liquid, either Concentrate (1 part to 2 parts water) or Ready to Use. Both are pure cane sugar with potassium chloride and calcium carbonate; Nectarade® also has wildflower hydrosols.

Mixing & freshness

How do I mix it?

Nectarlyte® Powder: 1 part powder to 4 parts warm water. Nectarade® Concentrate: 1 part concentrate to 2 parts water. Ready to Use: shake and pour. The Nectar Change Calculator has batch sizes.

How often should I change the nectar?

Change nectar every 2–3 days in normal weather, every 1–2 days when it's 90°F or hotter, and right away if it turns cloudy.

How long does Pop's nectar keep?

Sealed, it's guaranteed for 3 years when stored in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight. Once mixed, refrigerate any extra in a sealed container and use it within about a week. How long nectar lasts

Do I need red dye?

No. Hummingbirds are drawn to the red parts of a feeder, not red nectar. Pop's nectar has no dyes.

Subscribe & save

How does Subscribe & save work?

Your first order ships now. Choose how often you’d like a delivery, and you save 10% on every one. We email you 3 days before each order.

Can I skip, pause or cancel?

Yes, at any time. Sign in to your account, open your subscription, and choose Skip, Pause or Cancel.

What about winter?

Pause your subscription when the birds leave and resume it when they come back, right from your account. Nothing ships while it’s paused. Take feeders down about two weeks after your last sighting: when to take feeders down.

When are hummingbirds around where I live?

It depends on where you live. See our state hummingbird guides for when they usually arrive and leave.
