Build your hummingbird sanctuary
Hang the feeder
Hang it 4–6 feet high, with morning sun and afternoon shade, near a tree or shrub for cover. Pick a spot you can see from a window. See the placement guide.
Hang the swing beside it
Pop's rule of thumb: hang the swing about 1 foot from the feeder, at the same height, so they have a comfortable place to rest beside their food.
Plant flowers for cover
Choose a sheltered spot near tall flowering shrubs, so they have somewhere to retreat and natural nectar close by. Add the wildflower seed 3-pack to your bundle for extra savings.
Keep the nectar fresh

Which bundle should I choose?
The Sanctuary Bundle has everything to get started: the AspenPerch® 8 oz Feeder, your choice of Pop's hummingbird swing and your choice of Pop's nectar. The Haven Bundle is the feeder and a swing, for when you already have nectar. The Hummguard® Feeder Bundle is the feeder plus 12 Hummguard® Nectar Tips, for yards with bees or wasps.
How much do I save with a bundle?
Each bundle costs less than buying the items on their own. On the Sanctuary and Haven bundles, adding the wildflower seed 3-pack saves you more. The crossed-out price shows the regular price of the items you picked.
Can I pick any swing?
Yes. In the Sanctuary and Haven bundles, choose a swing style first (Original, Charm, Copper, Craft or Liberty Bell), then its color. The price and the photos update for the swing you pick. See the comparison table on this page for the differences between the styles.
Which nectar should I choose?
Nectarade® Ready to Use is the easiest: pour it straight into the feeder. Nectarade® concentrate and Nectarlyte® powder are mixed with water and go further. All of them add calcium and electrolytes, with no dyes or preservatives. Our nectar calculator shows how long each one lasts.
What is the wildflower seed add-on?
On the Sanctuary and Haven bundles, tick the box above Add to cart to add a 3-pack of Pop's Hummingbird Wildflower Seed Mix at a bundle discount. It goes into your cart with the bundle, and the discount shows in the cart. Planting flowers gives hummingbirds natural nectar and cover near your feeder.
Is a bundle a good gift?
Yes, a bundle is everything a new hummingbird fan needs to get started, in one order. You can include a gift note with your order, or simply email us after placing your order with the note you'd like included.
Setting it up
Where should I hang the feeder and swing?
Hang the feeder 4–6 feet high, with morning sun and afternoon shade, near a tree or shrub for cover. Pop's rule of thumb: hang the swing about 1 foot from the feeder, at the same height. See our full placement guide.
How long does it take for hummingbirds to start using the swing?
It varies bird to bird, and it may take a while. Pro tip: try moving the feeder about a foot away, at the same height, and hang the swing where the feeder was. Hummingbirds remember good food spots, which helps them discover the swing.
Is any assembly required?
No. The swing hangs from its included "S" hook, and the feeder comes ready to fill: lift the cover, add up to 8 oz of nectar, and press it back on.
How often should I change the nectar?
Change nectar every 2–3 days in normal weather, every 1–2 days when it's 90°F or hotter, and right away if it turns cloudy.
When should I take the feeder and swing down?
Take feeders (and the swing) down about two weeks after you last see a hummingbird. When to put feeders up and take them down.
