Do hummingbirds really swing?
Hummingbirds spend about three-quarters of the day perched when food is plentiful, and as little as about a fifth when it's scarce. The closer and richer their food, the more they sit. Pop's rule of thumb: hang your swing about 1 foot from your feeder, at the same height, and you'll get to watch them sit still up close. See what the research shows.
“The little hummers actually sit on it. So neat to see them sitting still. In fact, they fight over it, so I will have to get another one.”

Made in the USA and backed by Pop's® Limited Lifetime Warranty. Includes a copper hook for hanging, plus an informational hummingbird FAQ card.
Where to hang it & care
Use the included "S" hook to hang your swing about 1 foot from your feeder, at the same height (Pop's rule of thumb). Keep feeders clean. Change nectar every 2–3 days in normal weather, every 1–2 days when it's 90°F or hotter, and right away if it turns cloudy. Hang feeders and swings out of direct sun, in a somewhat sheltered spot away from predators.

Build a hummingbird sanctuary
Hang it in the right spot
Hang the feeder 4–6 feet high, with morning sun and afternoon shade, near a tree or shrub for cover. Pick a spot you can see from a window. See the swing placement guide.
Give them a place to rest
Pop's rule of thumb: hang a hummingbird swing about 1 foot from the feeder, at the same height, so they have a comfortable place to rest beside their food.
Add cover and flowers
Choose a sheltered spot near tall flowering shrubs, so they have somewhere to retreat and natural nectar close by. Pop's wildflower seed mix is an easy start.
Keep the nectar fresh
Change nectar every 2–3 days in normal weather, every 1–2 days when it's 90°F or hotter, and right away if it turns cloudy. Pop's nectar adds calcium and electrolytes.

It started with one swing
Captivated by the mystique and originality of the hummingbird, William “Pops” Sloan began the quest to invite more wonder into the lives of birders everywhere, so everyone could experience the joy and awe of a hummingbird sighting firsthand. Thus, the hummingbird swing was born.
Our mission: Pop's Birding is dedicated to helping people attract, understand, and enjoy hummingbirds through innovative products, practical education, and decades of hands-on experience.

The Pop's Difference
Hummingbird swing questions
The things bird lovers ask us most.
Getting Started & Placement
How long does it take for hummingbirds to start using the swing?
It varies bird to bird, and it may take a while. Hummingbirds are creatures of habit, so once they discover a comfortable, reliable perch near their food source, they'll return to it again and again. If your hummingbirds haven't found their swing yet, give it time — patience is part of the fun.
Where should I hang my hummingbird swing?
For best results, hang your swing about 1 foot from your feeder, at the same height (Pop's rule of thumb), or near a nectar-rich flowering plant. Hummingbirds guard good food from nearby perches, so a swing there gives them a front-row seat while they rest between feedings. A well-protected spot — near a bush, tree branch, or shepherd's hook — also helps them feel safe enough to settle in. See our complete guide here: Where to Hang Your Swing
Do I need a feeder to use the swing, or does it work on its own?
A swing works best paired with a nearby feeder or nectar-rich flowering plant, since hummingbirds use it as a resting spot close to their food source rather than a destination on its own. If you already have hummingbirds visiting your yard for natural food sources, a swing placed nearby can still give them a comfortable place to rest and watch their territory.
How many swings should I get?
Many of our customers start with one and end up ordering more — hummingbirds are famously territorial, and it's common to see them "claim" a swing near their favorite feeder, chasing off other visitors who try to share it. If you have multiple feeders or a yard with several hummingbirds, adding a swing near each one gives every bird its own spot to rest and keep watch.
Product Details
How big is the hummingbird swing?
Pop's Original Series Swing measures 5.25"(L) x .25"(D) x 6.50"(H) — sized specifically for hummingbirds, who don't need much room to perch comfortably. It's smaller than many people expect at first glance, but that's by design: a compact, lightweight perch built just for these tiny, delicate birds.
Will hummingbirds actually swing on it, or just perch?
Great question — hummingbirds use the swing as a stable resting perch rather than swinging it back and forth like a playground toy. They'll land, rest, preen, and keep watch over their territory from it, occasionally rocking gently with the breeze or their own movement. Watching them settle in for the first time is one of the most rewarding parts of owning one.
What's the difference between the Original, Charm, Copper, and Craft Series?
Every Pop's swing shares the same patented Polyperch® comfort and 100% American craftsmanship — the difference is in the design. Original Series features our classic scroll frame in four finishes; Charm Series adds a decorative bird or house charm to that same scroll design; Copper Series brings a warm copper frame paired with our signature heart charm; and Craft Series offers fun, playful silhouette shapes like a bird or house. See our full series comparison for details.
Will other birds use the swing besides hummingbirds?
While it's designed with hummingbirds in mind, some customers have spotted goldfinches, sparrows, and other small backyard birds enjoying the perch too. Don't be surprised if your swing becomes a popular rest stop for more than just hummingbirds.
Will the color finish fade over time?
The powder-coated steel frame is made for the outdoors and won't rust. As with anything that lives outside, colors can soften over time in strong, direct sun. Hanging your swing in a partly shaded spot (where we recommend hanging it anyway) helps it keep looking new. The Copper Series frame is real copper, so it naturally develops a warm patina over time.
Setup & Hardware
Does the hummingbird swing come with a hook?
Yes — every Pop's swing includes a stainless steel "S" hook for hanging, and the Copper Series comes with a copper "S" hook. If you're hanging your swing somewhere breezy, we recommend securing it with an S-ring or a sturdy shepherd's hook to keep it steady in the wind, especially if it's hanging alongside a feeder on the same pole.
Is any assembly required?
No assembly needed — simply hang your swing using the included hook, and you're ready to go.
Does the swing work with any feeder, or only certain ones?
Pop's swings hang independently near your feeder rather than attaching to it, so they work alongside any hummingbird feeder — ours or otherwise. Just hang the swing about 1 foot from wherever your hummingbirds already feed, at the same height (Pop's rule of thumb).
Care & Maintenance
How do I clean my hummingbird swing?
Since the swing doesn't hold nectar, it doesn't need the frequent cleaning your feeder does — an occasional wipe-down with a damp cloth to clear dust or debris is all it typically needs.
Should I bring my swing inside during winter or extreme weather?
You don't have to — the materials are weather-ready, so your swing can stay outside year-round. If hummingbirds leave your area for the colder months, bring the swing in when you take your feeders down, about two weeks after your last hummingbird sighting (when to put up and take down your feeder). If hummingbirds stay in your area year-round, feel free to leave everything up.
Ordering, Shipping & Gifts
Can I send this as a gift to someone else?
Absolutely — Pop's swings are one of our most popular gifts, from birthdays to Mother's Day to "just because" surprises for the hummingbird lover in your life. You can include a gift note with your order, or simply email us after placing your order with the note you'd like included. We also offer gift bags if you'd like to add gift packaging before we ship to your recipient's address. One thing worth knowing: our packing slips don't include pricing or a bill-to address by default, so if you'd like the recipient to know who the gift is from, be sure to add a gift note.
How fast will my order ship?
We ship orders daily typically within 1-2 business days. During some peak fulfillment events, orders may ship in 3 days. If you need your order expedited, just reach out to us and we'll do what we can to help.
Warranty & Returns
Is the swing covered by a warranty?
Yes — every Pop's swing is backed by our Limited Lifetime Warranty, covering manufacturer defects for the lifetime of the product. If something's wrong with your swing, our Warranty Department is ready to help at Warranty@PopsBirding.com.
What if I'm not satisfied with my purchase?
Pop's offers a 14-Day Satisfaction Guarantee on new products purchased in their original, sealed packaging from Pop's or an Authorized Retailer. If you're not happy for any reason, our Returns Department can help — reach out at Sales@PopsBirding.com.
